Technique & Fitness

Sting Gym Kickboxing classes are designed to introduce members to the fundamentals of Full Contact Kickboxing and Muay Thai while providing an exciting, high energy workout.

It has been proven that the best way to increase lean muscle mass, flexibility cardiovascular health and decrease unwanted body fat in a limited amount of time is by interval training. This is done by doing low resistance, intense cardio work in a short period of time (2-3 minute rounds) then slowing the heart rate down by doing a higher resistance exercise during the (1 minute rest period.) This allows everyone regardless of fitness or skill level to get their heart rate up at a level that is ideal for them to improve their overall ability to perform then drop it back down and improve recovery time. All classes at Sting Gym use the interval training concept. At Sting Gym Kickboxing light to moderate contact is applied to insure effectiveness and integrity of the drills. This is the introductory part of fighting in competition, where students develop confidence and self-defence abilities.

Our workouts help to burn up to an average of 500-700 calories per hour. These classes will improve every aspect of fitness and athletic ability no matter what your experience level. Sting Gym Kickboxing has a grading system in place to grade the level of those students who don't compete in competition fighting but want to keep their high level of training.

Sting Gym Muay Thai Kickboxing Intermediate

With the introduction of Sting Gym Kickboxing you move onto & learn to use the skills like the pros! This class is geared to teach offensive and defensive techniques in a controlled environment. Each class incorporates fundamentals of Sting Gym Muay Thai, Kickboxing and Boxing; all combined together with light to moderate contact is applied to insure effectiveness and integrity of the drills. This is the introductory part of fighting in competition, where students develop confidence and self-defence abilities.

Sting Gym Muay Thai incorporates striking with the knees, elbows feet, and fists. Like most competitive full contact fighting sports, Muay Thai has a heavy focus on body conditioning. Thai pad training is a cornerstone of Muay Thai conditioning which involves practicing knees, elbow, kicks and punches coupled in combinations and strikes with a trainer wearing thick pads which cover the forearms and hands.

Muay Thai training is often part of a fighter's overall mixed martial arts training because of the striking elements that you learn with this martial arts technique. Even if you are not looking to become a professional fighter, Muay Thai is a great workout and extremely applicable to effective self defence.

Sting Gym Muay Thai classes will teach you:

How to incorporate strikes with knees, elbows, feet and fists
The ability to execute strikes using eight "points of contact"
Learn to execute and incorporate the “clinch”
Basics of scoring points in a Muay Thai fight
Total body conditioning.

Sting Gym MMA (Mixed Martial Arts)

As one of the fastest growing sports in the world, just about everyone has heard of MMA in one form or another. Whether it's the UFC, CFC and Fightforce, people are coming to appreciate the level of athleticism, courage and training it takes to step into the ring or cage.

In the early 1990's the UFC and the Gracie family burst onto the scene with "No Rules" fighting and immediately put into the question the effectiveness of many traditional martial art styles.  Although the original competitions were highly criticized as being barbaric and scrutinized by politicians, they did teach one very important lesson: the best martial art style was not having ONE, but instead a blend of several arts including striking, wrestling, and submissions.

Classes often mix striking and submission drills with pad work, grappling, light sparring, and practicing takedowns and takedown defences.  Our mixed martial arts class will challenge you physically each day with our rigorous training routine, but will also inspire your desire to learn as you master new skills each training session.

Sting GYM - MMA Format

The techniques utilized in mixed martial arts competition generally fall into two categories: striking techniques (such as kicks, knees and punches) and grappling techniques (such as clinch holds, pinning holds, submissions, sweeps, takedowns and throws). At Sting Gym our MMA program is just that, utilizing a combination of Wrestling and Sting Gym Stand up Fighting System Whether you are training to get in shape, or looking to become a competitive fighter, there is a reason why Mixed Martial Artists are considered the greatest conditioned athletes in the world.  Our Sting Gym MMA (mixed martial arts) program combines striking arts such as Kickboxing, Muay Thai and Boxing, with grappling arts such as wrestling and jiu-jitsu. Students learn proven methodology and training techniques that can be very effective in competition, but also used for self-defence.

No Gi Grappling - Submission Wrestling at Sting Gym focuses on takedowns, positioning, clinch, submissions and defence. This class is designed to prepare students for competition in both the ring and the cage! And for self defence.
